Starfire Pinup by SheldonGoh Starfire Pinup by SheldonGoh
The second pinup I did for this year's limited edition DrawLAAHHH sketchbook, featuring kickass comic book women. I felt a bit nostalgic for the Teen Titans of yore so opted for the 80's era Starfire (a.k.a. the real Starfire :P ) in all her glory. :)

Starfire is property of DC Entertainment

Never caught onto much of the older Starfire or the Teen Titans comic but even you don't have be a fan to fancy a good pic of Starfire when its right in front of your face.

Damn you got some mad skills SheldonGoh, not kidding!  You got the lines that would make a comic book artist applaud you and the handling of the curves on Star to make any deviant here drop their jaw too, whoa!

You make a good point about how the older Starfire really catches the eye and one thing I really must stress about you version over the original is how much better the hair looks, lol.  Always chuckled when seeing it super poofy and looking very 80's, but here it seems alot more streamlined and crisper with the way you draw out the threads and show its fiery flow, now that's how you draw Starfire hair!

You definitely take your time to put alot of effort to making her costume look just as detailed as possible.  From the way you show off a nice gleam of something metal to the stylish and shiny appeal for the straps around her chest, its just eye candy for the eyes here.

Even notice too that you focus on some good anatomy with blending in the nice ample curves to show her off but keeping her figure nice and slim to show that fast and quick class she's known for being.  That doesn't mean you skip out either on the smaller things from the good articulation around the hands/fist to the wide hips and long/strong looking legs, bravo.

Lastly good show keeping her face as sweet as candy.  She has that old personality right there with that tender smile on her face and even with your new touch-ups to her look, you don't lose the sight and charm you get from her face.  That shows great quality and skills, not just with lines but just being a great artist, which you most certainly are SheldonGoh, grand show. *applauses and whistles*

Wow, first of all thanks for the kind words. And secondly, thanks for taking the time to write and tell me all that. I really am glad that the effort I put into the piece resonates with you. :)

The 80's New Teen Titans series by Marv Wolfman and George Perez was a really important comic book to me when I was growing up and I when I chose to do a Starfire piece, I wanted to pay tribute to the original character, as depicted by Geord Perez. So thanks for noticing and appreciating all the details. It was important to me that I stayed true to the sweetness of the character as while Starfire could be fierce and confident and sexy and all that, it was her wide eyed innocent sweetness that I remembered as being a distinctive character trait.

Thanks again for the encouragement. It means a lot. :)

If anything I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the comment, you did a spectacular job to make any comic book artist proud, so what better than to deliver the applause this pic deserves!

That's actually a good way to help remember some characters is by their features and Starfire's eyes definitely get some eyes eyes filled with envy, lol. Think you did the character, Marv/George proud here with how well you took care of the orange toned hottie though, you kept her looks charming while not getting too far into exploiting her body in her classic suit.

Oh again your more than welcome Sheldon, thanks for the marvelous work of art. *applauses*
